Blush Horizon de Chanel: Photos, Swatches & Review

Introducing the new limited edition Chanel blush from their spring collection 'Harmonie de Printemps' (aka Spring Harmony).  It's called, 'Blush Horizon de Chanel', which is described as a 'soft glow blush'.  Does this not scream spring to you?  >_<  This item was one of my picks from Chanel's collection - see the rest HERE if you're interested.  Now, initially when I'd seen photos of this blush when it was released in the U.S.A. earlier I wasn't sure if I was gonna get it.  I have plenty of pink blushes and despite the prettiness of the stripes, I didn't think the shade itself was unique.  Also, I was spoilt since I had bought the limited edition Poudre Tissée in 'Brompton Road' (sooo pretty, I still haven't swatched it!) from last year's Chanel Knightsbridge Collection, I didn't think it was as aesthetically impressive.  However, when I saw this in Harrods, it was a fair bit cheaper even after currency conversion than what the RRP would be here in Australia, so that's really what made me decide to get it.  Also, I was keen on getting other items as well, so it worked out to be cheaper even with shipping and excluding the UK VAT.

Colours, Texture & Longevity
Pretty striped blush in classic signature Chanel compact.
Close up of the spring colours. :)

This blush contains 5 different shades as you can see from the above photograph (from top to bottom):
  • Plum
  • Shimmery pink
  • White (unusual to see it on a blush!)
  • Peachy pink / Coral pink
  • Gold shimmer
As far as I can see, all the colours seem to run right through to the bottom of the pan.  Initially I thought that the gold shimmer strip was just an overspray because you can see hints of the coral pink underneath it, but after scratching (eep!!!) it a little bit to check if it was, it actually seems to run right through.  When swatched, all the colours appear true to their respective colour on the pan.

You can swirl your blush brush all around the entire set of colours to get a lovely mix of pink hues onto your cheeks.  Alternatively, you can just swirl it in the top half to get a nice, deep pink with a slightly plum hue - looks very lovely on darker skin tones.  Otherwise, you can swirl only on the bottom half to get a paler baby pink flush - lovely for all skin tones.  The blush gives excellent pigmentation, which you can build to get deeper shades (particularly if you focus on the top half and the dark plum shade) and though powdery in texture, it's soft and blends well onto the skin without looking chalky.  The shimmer/sheen (barely noticeable on the skin) gives just a very subtle glow to the skin, so it's not completely matte.

The blush starts to fade on my combination skin after about 4 hours, so it's not incredibly long wearing (on me anyway).
Swatches (against olive tan skin) of the individual colour strips (as best I could as I did this with my finger and it was impossible esp. with the thin white strip to just get that colour without touching either side of it!).  L - R: plum, shimmery pink, coral pink, gold shimmer, and the white.
Swatches (L - R) Swirled on top half of blush only; Swirled all colours together; and Swirled only the bottom half of blush.

Size
A staggering 15g (or 0.53 oz)! Definitely weighty! (Incidentally is also the same weight as the 'Brompton Road' Poudre Tissée). O_o :D Compared with the Joues Contraste blushes which are 4g each, and is comparable to the Chanel bronzing powders released for Summer 2011, which were 14g. So I'd say, I'm pretty happy with that amount! ^_^

Scent
In the pan, there is a slight scent which reminds me of glue stick that we use for arts and crafts. LOL.  Fortunately, there is no noticeable scent when it is applied on the cheek (unlike the Joues Contraste blushes, which have a relatively strong floral scent).

Packaging
The packaging is pretty much the same as the Chanel Joues Contraste (blush) compact - in the standard Chanel black lacquer. However, the brush included in the compact is different. Compared to the usual brush provided which is small and has more of a square edge, this one is wider and flatter with a slanted edge - reminiscent of the Burberry blush compact brush shape.  I love this shape as it automatically blends out the edges with every brush stroke so there's no harsh lines.  The bristles are also extremely soft (much softer than those provided with the Joues Contraste blushes).  Unlike the Joues Contraste blush compacts, there is no compartment for the brush as the product takes up the entire compact. It is housed in its own little velvet black pouch instead, similar to the compact pouch (which I put away and never use because it easily attracts dirt, fluff, etc!).

Availability
Available in the U.S.A. already (lucky! ;-)).  The spring collection should be available in Chanel boutiques and Chanel counters in department stores in Australia on February 19 according to BellaSugar.  This is a LIMITED EDITION.

Overall Thoughts
Personally, I don't think this is a 'must-have' blush as the colours when applied on the cheek are not unique, particularly for the price you pay.  So, I definitely would not have bought this if I had to buy it here in Australia, which would be AU$90(!)  However, what I do like is that it's pink (though not unique) - this is my favourite blush colour.  I like the quality of the powder which makes it lovely and easy to blend.  I like the design of the blush (although it's not as striking as the Poudre Tissée in 'Brompton Road'), and also the high quality, useable blush brush included.  I also like the fact that I can choose and vary the depth of pink and the hue depending on where I swirl the brush (i.e., top for deeper, plum pink; or baby pink if I swirl on the bottom half); or just use all the colours for fresh, medium, peachy pink cheeks.  I like the significant amount of product you get - so it's like you're getting 3 blushes in one given the amount and also the 3 ways you can use it - so perhaps this justifies the price a bit more along with the quality and presentation.  If you don't already own similar shades then I recommend you check this out.  Otherwise, if you love collecting Chanel make up then I don't need to say anymore other than be quick! ;-)

Hope this was useful and thank you for reading. xo
