Celebrity Culture: Celebrity Make-Up Products

There are massive amounts of make-up available from both the high street and high end brands so it is difficult to pick what you want from all of those products so we turn to people for advice, Celebrities. Celebrity make-up ranges are a great way to advertise a product and they can be absolutely rubbish products but because of the celebrity you want it. I would just like to say that I am dissing this concept but i am also very easily sucked in by this marketing ploy and it genuinely does work. Are the products actually any good or do we just think they are great because we like that celebrity?

Pictured above are a few products in my make-up collection that are obviously celebrity branded. Firstly i would like to point out that i have no idea on the actual amount of involvement a celebrity has with the products so i can't possibly comment on this. I have chosen 3 types of products to talk about; Rihanna's MAC lipsticks, Tanya Burr's lip glosses and Eylure lashes.

With the MAC and Rihanna collaborations i feel like these couldn't go wrong. MAC is such a well known brand for make-up and it has a reputation to up hold. I have one of the RiRi Holiday collection lipsticks in Pleasure Bomb which was £16.50 and the Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick which was £15. The first lipstick was more expensive and I think that was purely because it was Rihanna,it was a very sought after collection and it was out around Christmas time so they knew people would want them. The collection sold out very quickly but the colour selection was amazing. These lipstick genuinely are amazing but that probably because they are MAC. So where does Rihanna come into it? Well before these lipsticks i hadn't bought a single item of MAC Make-up and these products are what started it, i had to have them and its all Rihanna's fault. Don't pretend you don't want to look like Rihanna because you do and buying her make-up gives you that hope that it might make you look a bit like Rihanna. I can safely say wearing them doesn't make you look like Rihanna but it does give you confidence. However because these were limited edition i rushed out to buy them both but to be honest i probably would have preferred to buy a different lipstick than Pleasure Bomb because it doesn't really suit me and i don't really have occasion to wear it often but in my mind i had to have it.

Moving on to a different idea of celebrity make-up, Tanya Burr has become a celebrity, she is photoed in magazines and i hate to say it but no matter what the youtubers say they have become elevated due to their collaborations with companies and due to separating themselves from other people by producing things that their fans can buy. I do like a lot of the Youtubers who are commonly associated with Tanya and all of them said these lip glosses are amazing but really would they say anything else? I do believe that Tanya had a lot of involvement in the product, something i'm not sure someone like Rihanna would have with MAC. Additionally these lipglosses are good and i do like them, they are long lasting and not sticky two things i like about a lip gloss but if they were just by Rimmel would the image of them be as good or would they just be another lip gloss if they weren't associated with Tanya? I don't want to take away from what Tanya has done because they are good but would people have rushed out like they did to buy them if they weren't by her? The release definitely would not have been as hyped up as it was for these products.

Finally are the Eylure lashes, i do not have an ordinary pair of lashes i only own lashes which are endorsed by a celebrity so the Cheryl ones and a few Katy Perry lashes and why is this, well it is because they appeal to me, if i think a celebrity likes a product and it is good enough for them then it is good enough for me. You can probably buy the same lashes in plain packaging but the celebrity ones just look better. Once again it is the same as the Rihanna lipsticks, if i wear their lashes i can look like them. In reality they don't use their own products but i just like to think they do. To be honest they are just lashes but i do like the look of the ones have bought, i wanted lashes anyway and these ones attracted me so well done merchandise man who created this need within me.

I do like all of these products they genuinely are good but i do my research and think about buying things before i go straight out to buy something and just because a celebrity endorses a product doesn't make it any different. I think it is great as a way of helping people pick products but if they are bad products that sucks so be careful with celebrity products because not all of them are winners.

What are you favourite celebrity products and what are you thoughts on celebrity culture within make-up?
