Ladies and Gentlemen,

Truly wonderful news: My latest work as a fashion editor is featured by SPOOK magazine on their website. Shot by phenomenal photographer RAEN BADUA, our editorial called "Heart Of Gold" starring the incredible ZEBEDEE ROW, who I hope you remember from this Baptism-themed shoot I styled him for The Dapifer. SPOOK also conducted a little interview with me, which I am copying below as well, along with a short video:

SPOOK: Hey Leonid! What is your experience in fashion editing and how did you get into it?

Leonid Gurevich: I studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I am a clothing designer and illustrator originally, so styling and envisioning the clothes on the model in the context of a story in a layout comes naturally to me. I’ve always been doing fashion editing whether I was designing, styling, or staging runway shows – it was just never reflected in the credits – until now.

What do you love about your work?

Where do I even begin… I love the fact that I get to create, explore, analyze, and reinvent concepts. I love showing clothes in interesting settings, beautiful locales. I love working with unique designers’ pieces, mixing them for editorials, multiplying the magic. I love coming up with strong concepts knowing they will get a rise out of the viewer. I love finding the right photographer for the story who will be able to add to the vision. I love working with talented people. Talent is the biggest aphrodisiac.

What tunes are on rotation in the editing studio/work/home at the moment?

Young Rising Sons, Stromae, and Madonna’s latest ‘Rebel Heart’ album. It’s phenomenal.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

You might find it surprising, but what inspires me a great deal is the style of cutting-edge television networks and their thought-provoking original series. Take “American Horror Story” on FX for instance, or any of HBO’s shows – you will never guess what’s coming up next. The brilliant minds behind these networks perfected the art of the unexpected and the non- cliché. That’s the most challenging but also the most rewarding way to do things.

How did this shoot happen?

Ever since I laid my eyes on Zebedee Row – my Australian muse – for the first time, I wanted to put him in a Bohemian, Hippie setting. I had worked with him previously, styling him for a Baptism-themed cover story for the Dapifer. Zebedee is a great model, musician, and a fantastic actor. His talents as an actor allow his entire DNA to change for the sake of portraying a character in the most accurate way. I couldn’t see anyone else other than him modeling for our “Heart of Gold” story, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.I imagined him playing the role of a young, aspiring musician in the late 1960’s on his way to Woodstock. Tomorrow’s legend, still unknown, sitting on the grass on a warm autumn afternoon, scribbling lyrics for his future hits, blissfully unaware of his impending world fame and mind-blowing career…

I was searching for a photographer who could capture this story that I have envisioned. Raen Badua was that wonderful photographer, he did it in the most beautiful, authentic, and intimate way. Raen also filmed a marvelous short-video during the shoot that is absolutely a must-see. (Video below)

Where are the clothes from?

I pulled the clothes anywhere from established brands like Adrianne Landau, to young emerging brands like Degen, to an incredible vintage showroom Morphew, and so forth.

What’s the location?

We shot in Stanfordville, NY – about 1⁄2 hour from Woodstock, coincidentally. Beautiful, magical scenery. There were little ponds with tiny islands in the middle of each, with trees growing on them. Pure enchantment. We managed to catch the foliage at its most vibrant, right before it would have disappeared.
